The Toyota Pre-Collision System

Toyotas showing how pre-collision system works
The Toyota Safety Sense™ package is an advanced system available on certain models to keep Cadillac drivers much safer during their commutes. This ground-breaking safety feature includes the Toyota Pre-Collision System, one of the most advanced safety features in the industry. Many drivers aren’t aware of the Toyota Safety Sense™ and what it entails, so we put together a short guide.

This advanced system uses a front-facing camera and a laser to provide you with alerts when it detects objects in your path. These alerts prompt you to hit your brakes, providing you with plenty of advanced notice when something unexpected happens. If required, the Pre-Collision System also brings your vehicle to a dead stop. How Does the Toyota Pre-Collision System Work?

How exactly does the Toyota Pre-Collision System work to help keep you safer? The detailed list below explains in depth exactly how this system functions.

  • The Toyota Pre-Collision System leverages the power of a front-facing camera and laser radar system to detect the presence of items in front of your vehicle
  • The system even calculates an accurate distance between you and whatever might block your path
  • Using a combination of your speed, the system rates the probability of you making contact with the object in the road.
  • If your vehicle expects you to make contact with the object, you’ll receive a warning in the form of an audio-visual on your display screen.
  • If you don’t satisfy the proper braking distance, the system intervenes and applies the brakes, allowing you to avoid a collision.

Pedestrian Detection with Toyota Safety Sense™

Multiple versions of the Toyota Pre-Collision System exist, depending on the vehicle. One of the most standard versions of this package is the Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.0 (TSS 2.0), which includes a feature known as Pedestrian Detection. The latest versions include intersection support and emergency steering functions that help you avoid striking cyclists, pedestrians, and other drivers during your Glen Arbor travels. This helps in busy intersections or when you’re taking left turns and yielding to oncoming traffic.

Additional Features Included with Toyota Safety Sense™?

Does a specific model catch your eye? Depending on the exact vehicle you’re thinking about purchasing, there are multiple variations of the Safety Sense package. The latest versions include Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5 and Toyota Safety Sense™ 2.5+, and provide the following features:

  • Pre-Collision System (PCS)
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist (LDA w/SA)
  • Automatic High Beams (AHB)
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA)
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC)
